what is polyethylene wax 

Polyethylene Wax  is a kind of  polyethylene consisting of ethylene monomer chains with  chemical formula is (C2H4)n.

Polyethylene wax (PE wax) can be low molecular weight polyethylene polymer (LDPE ) or high molecular weight polyethylene polymer (HDPE) that because of  molecular weight it will have different appearance such as viscosity, hardness, melt point, reactivity etc.
PE Wax is on-purpose product and as a byproduct of polyethylene producing.

Polyethylene wax grades

Main characteristics that determine polyethylene wax grades are:

A.Molecular weight

   Low molecular weight polyethylene polymer (LDPE ) and  high molecular weight polyethylene polymer (HDPE)

B.Length of polymer branches

Polymers can have side chains or branches growing out from one main chain . Side chains or branches comes out of the same units as the main polymer chains. The branches are built from side reactions during polymerization.

The length of the side chains or branches is different between long- or short-branched polymers. Long branches can be comb-like, random, or star-shaped . However, they do not connect to another polymer chain

C.Monomer / polymer

Monomers with two or more end groups are likely to support branching. For a polymer to classify as branched polymer the side chains or branches must comprise of a minimum of one complete  monomer unit.

Oxidized  PE wax

Homopolymer polyethylene wax will be functionalized by oxidation and  adds acid and ester  to the polyethylene wax. Oxidized polyethylene wax is polar and has different compatibility properties that polyethylene homo polymer. This functionality results  emulsification of oxidized polyethylene wax.

Pe wax versus paraffin wax

Paraffin wax is usually produced as a by-product of oil refining. It has a molecular weight which is usually less than half that of most polyethylene waxes. So, paraffin wax usually has a much lower melt point and is softer than polyethylene waxes.

Pe wax shapes

Polyethylene wax can be shaped in flakes, granulated or powder  shapes which are in different sizes too.

Usage  :

Polyethylene wax  is used in  films, tubes, plastic parts, laminates, packaging, automotive, electrical, tire , master batch , creams , body lotions etc.

Packing of PE wax

Packing is commonly 25 kg bags or jumbo bags .
