Difference between paraffin liquid and white petroleum?

Paraffin and microcrystalline waxes, when in their pure form, consist solely of solid saturated hydrocarbons. On the other hand, Petrolatum differs from these waxes as it contains a combination of solid and liquid hydrocarbons. Petrolatum remains semi-solid at typical temperatures and exhibits a softer texture compared to the other two waxes.”

A: Liquid paraffin (also known as mineral oil) is a highly refined, colorless, odorless petroleum-derived hydrocarbon liquid. It is produced by distilling and treating waxy oil fractions to remove impurities and achieve high purity—making it suitable for cosmetic, pharmaceutical and industrial uses.

A: Liquid paraffin is widely used in cosmetics as a moisturizer, emollient, and barrier agent; in pharmaceuticals as a laxative, ointment base, and lubricant; and in industry as a heat transfer oil, rust-preventive agent, and plastic or rubber processing aid.

A: Important specifications include viscosity (light or heavy grade), density, flash point, purity level, sulfur content, odor, and compliance with food, cosmetic, or pharmaceutical standards depending on the intended use.
