Bitumen paint

What is Bitumen Paint?

Bitumen paint provides a quick drying coating that is waterproof, weatherproof and corrosion resistant. It’s an economical and protective anti-corrosive solution for a variety of building material, such as iron, steel, timber and concrete.

Where Can You Use Bitumen Paint?

Due to its weatherproofing, corrosion resistant and adhesive qualities bitumen paint can be applied in many different situations. Its main use, however, is as a protective coating for buildings and building materials such as iron, steel, concrete, masonry and wood. It is often used on metal guttering, fire escapes, stairways, ladders, railings and fences because it can be used on ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Bitumen is quick drying, a property that lends itself well to be used as a weatherproof overcoating for flat roofs, felt roofing and industrial roofing. For this reason paint is most commonly associated with waterproofing a roof. Bitumen can also be used below ground level and is sometimes used for damp proofing brickwork and foundations that are below ground level.

How Long Does Paint Last?

The paint is a durable material that can last a relatively long time. When applied to a felt roof bitumen will usually last 2 to 3 years before it begins to dry out. However, if applied to a more porous surface like masonry it will last longer.

The Benefits Of Using Paint

It is a very economical solution and is often more cost effective than other coatings that offer similar weatherproofing. Bitumen paint can be applied to a wide variety of surfaces and still have the following positive attributes:
  • Anti-corrosive
  • Odour-free
  • Quick drying
  • Weatherproof
  • Adhesive
  • Durable

Are There Disadvantages Of Using Paint?

It is usually only available in one colour – black. This makes it a narrow option for aesthetic reasons and it may not be the most attractive finish. Due to its properties it can be very difficult to apply in very cold conditions. If bitumen is being used in extremely hot climates it can negatively affect its lifespan despite it being durable to heat and UV. It will also bleed through certain top coats which limits what you can overcoat with it. Bitumen is mixture of bitumen with white sprit including stabilizer additives and viscosities stuff. The paint is using for painting of concrete, cement, wood and steel structure. The bitumen paint is using as prime coat and sealant.

How apply paint on surface.

When you applying bitumen pain on surface it should be free of dust and debris. The surface should be free of oil and moisture before using. It is better to wait 4-12 hours to get fully.
