Application of Monoethanolamine (MEA)

The most common application of liquid monoethanolamine is in gas purification to absorb acid gases. Monoethanolamine usage is to remove carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide pollutants in the gas sweetening process. Monoethanolamine and diethanolamine combine with carbon dioxide at room temperature and produce acid and amine gas (to be reused in this reaction) when exposed to high temperatures. During gas synthesis, monoethanolamine is for gas purification and produces ammonia, hydrogen and carbon monoxide. The first removed pollutant during this process is carbon dioxide. During the subsequent reactions carried out by diethanolamine in the natural purification of gas in the refinery, the removed pollutant is hydrogen sulfide.
